VDORA1 - Vitamin D Oral Replacement in Asthma
What is the VDORA1 Research Study?
The VDORA1 research study will evaluate how much Vitamin D supplement a child must take to get Vitamin D to a certain level in his or her blood.
Why is the study being done?
The research study may help determine if levels of Vitamin D will help children who have asthma and a weight that is higher than what is considered a healthy weight for their height.
Is there a time commitment?
If your child chooses to join the VDORA1 study, he or she will be asked to visit the doctor’s office 9 times over a period of 8 months. You and your child will be asked to spend a total of 4 to 6 hours per month on study activities. Participants will be compensated for their time and travel
Who can be in the VDORA1 study?
If you are interested in asking your child if he or she wants to join the VDORA1 study, he or she must:
- Be 6 to 17 years old at the time they join the study.
- Have asthma that was diagnosed by a physician.
- Have a BMI greater than or equal to the 85th percentile.
- Have a current relationship with an asthma-care provider.
- Be able to swallow an average-sized pill.
